Using the InstantVap

Important: before starting ensure that appropriate PPE is worn.

Using the ejector dispenser, turn and spin the top dial until the ejector stop plate moves to either the 1,2 3 or 4 gram mark. Heat up the InstantVap (LED will be slow blinking) until it reaches full temperature being between 230C to 260C where the LED light will then stay on permanently.

Insert the InstantVap into your hive at either the entrance or a small hole created at the back of the hive.

Now insert the ejector/dispenser into the vertical holding chamber and secure firmly. Finally press the top disc plate of the dispenser downwards resulting in releasing the Oxalic Acid and changing the LED to flash fast. Allow the vapour to fill the hive for the recommended duration before removing. Once the vaporisation time is complete, the LED will slowly flash again bringing the temperature in the device back up to its peak.

The Turbo model is designed to reduce treatment time further when working through a large number of hives.

No, Oxalic acid treatments can be applied to brood boxes with honey supers in place. Always follow the product label directions and any applicable state agricultural guidelines.

Oxalic acid vaporisation is most effective on brood-free colonies, as it only kills mites in the phoretic stage (on bees), not those inside capped cells. For colonies with brood present, multiple treatments timed to coincide with the mite lifecycle may be required. Consult your local apiary authority for treatment protocols.

The standard recommended dose is 2 grams of oxalic acid dihydrate per brood box. However if using two brood boxes, use 3 grams. If the hive contains a higher number of varroa mites, then increase the dose by one more gram. Therefore would be 3 grams for a single brood box and 4 grams for a double.
